Ten rustic bungalows on stilts give guests a panoramic view of the floodplains from above, with the possibility of a wildlife spotting at any moment. It is the best of a “camping” experience with a touch of luxury, including high-pressure showers and comfortable organic linens. The technology-free bungalows promote connection to nature without the distraction of televisions or Internet access, but maintains outlets for charging cameras and other devices.
The stilted Safari Bungalows offer all the comforts of a modern hotel room while preserving the camp-like quality that is so integral to Bamurru Plains. The bungalow is enclosed on three sides by floor-to-ceiling mesh screens, giving the sensation of sleeping out in the wild with an extra layer of protection from the elements and insects. An elevated construction permits for excellent panoramic views as far as the eye can see, with a birds-eye perspective ideal for spotting local animals. A spacious ensuite bathroom features high-pressure showers and hot water. Each room features a cold-water thermos and informational materials about local flora and fauna. Climate control is available as needed for the changing seasons, with three bungalows that feature bi-fold doors to enclose the space should air conditioning be desired. The one-of-a-kind Kingfisher Suite is the largest bungalow at Bamurru Plains, perfect for a family of five or a couple on their honeymoon. An 870 square-foot bedroom features a king bed and separate lounge area with comfortable couches and coffee table. For a family with children, there is plenty of floor space for deluxe swag beds, a traditional Australian canvas bed not unlike a luxurious sleeping bag. There is a dining table to accommodate candlelit in-room dinners—with no electronics to distract, the natural sounds of the plains serve a background music. A large ensuite bathroom features double sinks and high pressure showers with hot water, including one shower with a floor length private view of the landscape. Dining is local and intimate at Bamurru Plains, with meals served in the main lodge or on the wildlife observation deck. Guests will enjoy gourmet meals with authentic Australian recipes, created with locally sourced and native ingredients. Mealtimes are built around the daily activity schedules at Bamurru Plains, with light breakfasts before early morning excursions and a three-course dinner around the main dining table with your fellow guests.
Guests arise with the first light of day shining through their bungalows for a light breakfast of cereals, fruits, juices, freshly baked breads, and coffee or tea. On some excursions, a stop for morning tea allows for a moment of reflection amongst the natural beauty of the surroundings. The first large meal of the day is served at lunchtime back at camp, either by the pool or on the wildlife observation deck. Menu items may include fresh Australian game barbeque, kangaroo skewers, barramundi filet, or a citrus warm chicken salad. After winding down from the day’s adventure, sunset canapés are served on the deck before dinner. Three-course dinners are served in the dining room, where the chef prepares his daily creation in the open kitchen
Guests may help themselves from the open bar at any time of the day. Local wines, beers, and non-alcoholic beverages are included in the rate. For an additional cost, premium wines and spirit are also available.
The biodiversity of Bamurru Plains provides endless possibilities for experiencing largely untouched nature. The region’s fragile ecosystem includes wetlands and savannah woodlands, with a monsoonal weather climate dictated by dry and wet seasons. Each of these distinct seasons carries with it a special landscape scenario worth seeing—the main wet season is ideal for fishing, with run-off from overflowing riverbanks, whereas the dry season sees an incredible flocking of birds. Local inhabitants that are frequently spotted include wallabies and wallaroos, dingos, crocodiles, a vast array of reptiles, and hundreds of bird species.
The Hide is a screened-in observation deck built 20 feet off the ground and nestled among the tree canopies. It is an ideal spot for bird watching and incredible photo opportunities. In addition, guests may arrange for a private lunch in The Hide, or a romantic evening sleepover in a deluxe swag bed.
Included in your Ultimate Wilderness Experience rate is an airboat trip, a river cruise for spotting wildlife along the Sampan River, a four-wheel drive safari across the property, guided bush walks, bird watching, astronomy evenings, and quad bike safaris. For an additional cost, guests can choose to experience a scenic flight, go fishing, or pay a visit to the Kakadu National Park.
